About our trip to Transmediale

Back in November 2006, Brian Degger suggested a visit to Berlin's Transmediale festival, on the Digital Arts and Media, Northeast email list. This was then extended to the NewcastleGraft email group, and a list of people who wanted to go was drawn up.

Working together, those who wanted to go put together a proposal to the Arts Council. The tight time limit meant that we couldn't apply for money to help us with air travel or hotels: we had to book them ASAP! Instead, we concentrated on asking for money to help us survive in Berlin - money for food, tickets, and travel inside Berlin. This approach meant that we were not dependent on funding for going, but that if we did get it, it would be really useful.

Luckily, some funding was secured from the Arts Council, which was great. We stayed in Berlin for most of a week, at the Generator X hostel (wouldn't recommend it, sorry) and left inspired by what we saw.
